Rare 1890s American Automaton by Edward Ives of Automatic Toy Works 26cm high x 16cm wide. Two carved wooden painted “Jig Juba” dancing black dolls with jointed shoulders/hips/ankles, replaced pink tutu’s and the original clothes are with the dolls, but only one hat, original painted gloves, and stockings. Both standing upon a wooden box with dovetail construction. Box has an original girls transfer on one side, and hiding the working original clockwork mechanism, has the original key. The wire lever stop/start is working perfectly and the figures dance about in a carefree manner. Wonderfully preserved American toy held by one family forever and comes with an assigned letter in 1936 to the current generation.
